March into May

Dear March Into Pay Past Coordinators and Participants,

It is with much sadness that I write to inform you that Healthy Portland and Healthy Casco Bay will no longer run the March Into May (MIM) program. MIM has always been largely a grant funded program and unfortunately we are no longer able to fund the staff time required to facilitate the behind-the-scenes components of the Program and the website.

We have enjoyed hearing your stories over the past decade and more recently seeing many of you participate in our March Into May 5K. Thank you for letting us share your successes, challenges and celebrations.

We also would like to thank our generous sponsors over the years. Their sponsorship allowed us to offer MIM to worksites throughout Maine for free by helping to support the cost of creating and maintaining the website, holding the 5K and many of the other small touches that made MIM such a success.

For those of you that are interested in participating in similar worksite physical activity programs, you can contact your local Healthy Maine Partnership at www.healthymainepartnerships.org and ask about programs in your area.

If you are looking for a program that runs on a similar timeline as March Into May, you may want to check out Move and Improve. Move and Improve is a 12-week program designed to encourage participants to increase the amount of physical activity that is engaged in on a daily/weekly basis. The program is free, and like March Into May, participants use an on-line physical activity log to track their progress. The 2012 program marks the beginning of Move and Improve's sixteenth year. For more information, you can check out www.moveandimprove.com. Move and Improve has offered to offer a training for anyone interested in becoming a coordinator for their site in southern Maine in February 2012. If you are interested in learning more about this training, please contact Healthy Portland at 756-8021.

Thank you for your commitment to March Into May over the past decade. We wish you the best of luck in your future physical activity goals!
