• The Maine Nutrition Network (MNN) helps coordinate nutrition education activities that

SOUTHERN MAINE VOLKSPORT ASSOC.
The Southern Maine Volkssport
Association(SMVA) is a non-profit walking club whose goal is to promote recreational walking through events known as "volksmarches". A volksmarch is a leisurely walk through a scenic, historic or interesting

A MATTER OF BALANCE
Managing Concerns about Falls
A Matter of Balance is a program developed by The Roybal Center for Enhancement of Late-Life Function at Boston University. It is designed to reduce fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults who manifest this fear.
The program:A Matter of Balance acknowledges the risk of falling but
emphasizes practical coping strategies to reduce this fear. These include:
· Promoting a view of falls and fear of falling as controllable
· Setting realistic goals for increasing activity
· Changing the environment to reduce fall risk factors
· Promoting exercise to increase strength and balance.

Worksite Wellness Resources Good Work!
Linking health to the bottom line: Cost-effective strategies for a healthier workplace
resource kit- In September 2004, the Maine Cardiovascular Health Program in collaboration with
the Partnership for a Tobacco-Free Maine developed the Good Work! resource kit. The kit was
created to provide tools for Maine employers to improve employee health. The kit describes the
link between healthy work environments and the bottom line and identifies key elements of
successful worksite wellness programs. Good Work! offers a wide variety of strategies to support
physical activity, nutrition, and tobacco-free lifestyles, as well as prevention and control of health
risks related to cardiovascular disease and stroke. Most importantly, the kit provides successful
strategies used by a variety of Maine employers.
